There are several reasons why it is important to observe LGBT Pride Month. No matter how large or small, they all share a common goal: to raise awareness about LGBT issues among both the general public and within the community itself. In some places, they are large, public affairs while in others they are small, personal celebrations. Nowadays, it overlaps with other events such as World Pride, Gay Games, and many others. The month of June was chosen because it marks the end of LGBT History Month and the beginning of summer. It began as an initiative of the gay community but has now become an annual event observed by everyone. There are marches, rallies, festivals, and more.
